Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been good even with the wind, rain and all the fresh water run off. The best spot for a keeper snook seems to be at Taylor Creek. Most of the fish have been on the top side of the slot. Most of the fish reported were caught on a plug or a feather. I got a few reports of snook coming from around the North Bridge after dark and on the tide change. The trout action has been steady at first light when using a top water bait or a finger mullet. Try places like Pete Stone Creek to the south and around Bird Island to the north. Plenty of action reported coming from along the channel edges from anglers throwing a live shrimp. Most of the fish reported were snapper but there was also black drum, sheepshead, jacks and all the ladyfish you wanted. The big tarpon have been in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and they have been following the schools of mullet. The tarpon were reported to be 50 to 100 pounds.
OFFSHORE - This has not been the best week for offshore fishing with all the thunder storms. But, the bigger boats that went out anyway reported a good sailfish bite in 95 to 105 feet of water to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. A skirted ballyhoo seemed to do the trick. There are still some small kingfish in 60 to 80 feet of water and they are taking live blue runners or a mullet. I am still getting reports of small blackfin tuna coming from around the 100 foot mark. Most of the fish are real small -- under 5 pounds. The bottom fishing has also been steady on the nicer days. The area up round Bethel Shoals has been producing a good number of fish and also over the reefs in 50 to 60 feet of water. The action along the beaches has been great with just about every fish chasing the big schools of mullet.
TEEN ANGLERS - The monthly inshore fishing tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers was rescheduled due to the bad weather we had last Sunday morning.
