Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
April 2, 2000
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore fishing this last week was very good until mid week when the winds kicked in. I did have 4 charters this past week with good catches on all of them.

JACKS - The jacks are here and are every where you throw your bait. Last week I had a couple of anglers from Pennsylvania, Nathan Beck and his dad Tom Beck. Nathan had a 22 pound jack! That's a nice size fish for anyone. And on last Sunday my charter was fishing in a private nine boat tournament he caught a 28 & 3/4 jack to win the tourney. The jacks will hit just about any bait you throw at them.

SNOOK - The snook action continues to be strong with good catches around the fenders of the North bridge and the Ft. Pierce Inlet. On a trip last night we had 2 snook to 16 pounds using live shrimp. Live pinfish are working the best in the Inlet.

TROUT - Trout fishing remains steady with good catches coming from the Harbor Branch area. There were several trout in the 6 pound range caught this past week. Live shrimp and a popping cork in 3 to 5 feet of water is your best bet.

REDFISH - Redfish are still in the Bear Point area with a few being caught this past week using blue claw crabs. Most of the fish were under 10 pounds.

SNAPPER - The snapper are every where you can find a structure to fish. The channel markers, docks, and bridges are the places to find these fish. The bait to use is live shrimp and most of the snapper were in the 2 pound range.

Until next week, Good fishing!
