Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
May 28, 2000
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore fishing has been good all week but the early morning hours seemed to produce the most fish. The late afternoon hours from 6:00pm until dark did produce a few nice catches. I had four very sucessfull trips this week with good catches on all four. On Saturday angler Jeff Bever from Westminster Colorado had a great day of catch and release fishing. I took Jeff to my favorite trout spot and he got 9 trout to 6 & 1/2 pound and also a 12 pound snook. We also had a mix bag of fish. All fish were released. On the trout we were using large live shrimp and a popping cork and fishing in 3 to 5 feet of water.

SNOOK - The snook action this past week slowed just a little but a few were caught at the Turning Basin and a couple of nice size snook were taken at Taylor Creek using finger mullet.

TROUT - The trout was the hot fish this past week. Trout were being caught at Round Island, Bear Point, Harbor Branch and at Big Mud Creek. Live shrimp took most of these fish. The trout that were weighed in went from 2 to 9.8 pounds. The big one was caught to the south in the river.

SNAPPER & GROUPER - The snapper and grouper bite was good along the channel edges. Live bait and cut bait took these fish.

REDFISH - My charter on Wednesday got 3 redfish to 8 pounds and released all fish. We were on the flats near the Moorings in Vero Beach.

SURF - The surf has been giving up nice catches of sand perch, whiting, blue fish, pompano and even a snook. A 15 pound snook was caught in the surf on the South beach using a Boomber lure. Just south of Ocean Village was a good spot to fish and on the north beach just above of Pepper Park was a spot that produced a lot of fish.

Always remember C.P.R. CATCH - PICUTRE - RELEASE

uNTIL NEXT WEEK, GOOD FISHING!
