Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

This has been a good week for fishing with good catches of trout, snapper, tarpon and also catch and release snook. Just a reminder to check your fishing equipment and do a quick cleaning of it as snook season will open on Sept. 1st!! I am giving a snook seminar at Grand Slam Fishing Center on Aug. 30 at 7:00pm. TROUT - The trout bite has been on the early morning hours and again just before dark. The hot spots this week were at Round Island, the Moorings and at Harbor Branch. Pigfish and large live shrimp took these fish. I had reports of trout to 7 pounds being caught.
SNAPPER - The snapper have been hanging out on the channel edges and at both bridges. Snapper to 3 pounds were reported. Live shrimp were taking most of these fish.
TARPON - The tarpon have been very active in the early morning hours on most of the flats in our area. Live mullet caught most of these tarpon.
SNOOK - The catch and release snook were going strong this past week with the Ft. Pierce Inlet, Turning Basin and Taylor Creek being the hot spots. Croakers and large live shrimp were working on the snook. Snook season re-opens on Sept.1, 2000.
SURF - The surf has been producing a few whitting and that's about all. The whitting were caught on frozen shrimp.
