Haulover Inlet - Saltwater Fishing Report

Steady action the past month for a mixed variety of fish. We have been primarily fishing the patch reefs with light tackle. Live bait has been the preferred method.
Most of the trips I have been doing are half day trips with children and families. This has been the best way to bend the rod for those short on patience. We have been catching Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, mutton snapper, amberjacks, and yellowtail snappers just too name a few.
The shark fishing has been active on the shallow reefs as well. Once they sense action they tend to want to be a part of it. That is when we will slide a bigger rod out with a bigger bait. Some of the sharks we have been catching are nurse shark, sandbar shark, and black tip. We also captured two sharks with research tags in them back to back last week.

Farther offshore we have been catching mahi-mahi, tuna, king mackerel, sailfish, and some deep water snapper. The sailfish haven't showed up in great numbers yet but we are still hearing reports of 2s and 3s.
The wrecks have been producing some nice sized amberjacks and the occasional black grouper. As we get closer to winter we should be seeing more grouper and snapper.

Inshore fishing has been heating up as well. There are some shrimp starting to move in Biscayne Bay giving us an opportunity to engage in some bigger predators such as tarpon, snook, jack crevalle, lady fish, and Spanish mackerel. I anticipate the fishing should stay good as long as the cold fronts keep moving in pushing the apex predators further south.

Holiday season is here and we are offering gift certificates for that special loved one. Email me or call me for further info.
Tight lines,
Capt. Fred David
