Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore Fishing Report / Hernando Beach Fl

Hay anglers now is the time to get on the water and catch some fish. With the cooling of the gulf waters the inshore fishing is off the hook, we have lots of action with red fish, trout, sheepshead, black drum, pompano, and a few snook are being caught. The middle of the incoming tide and first of the out going tide has the best action. Lures are a great tool to learn this time of year, top water plugs and chug bugs are producing great catches of monster gator trout and red fish. The lures I like to use are the rapala skitter walks (SW08), spook Jrs, kvd sexy shad, and storm chug bugs. Subsurface lures are great to use when the sun gets to around high noon, the mirr o lure 17MR in the 808 and 50 color are my top choices. Soft plastic jigs rig with a 1/8 ounce jig head or pooping cork method is another great way to target the inshore game fish.

Now the red fish are making there way into the back country creeks and coves, look for structure such as mangroves shore lines, oyster bars, pot holes, and springs to hold red fish. Live bait and lures are both working very good, for live bait pin fish are the ticket right now. What I like to do with my pin fish is to cut off the tail of the pin fish and use a 3/0 circle hook, hook the pin fish at the tail end so you can get a longer cast and it puts sent in the water it makes the red fish go crazy for it. Trout are in the same areas I like to use top water lures to target them in the early morning hours, there is nothing better than a monster trout or red fish smashing a plug. Just keep moving the boat until you find a school and anchor down.

Sheepshead and black drum are around the creeks, pot holes, and oyster bars. Live shrimp rigged with a 1odd hook free line is the best way to catch them just keep a tight line so you can feel the bite. Stop into Precision Tackle and check out the new items that Dave has got in from rods and reels to the best lures Precision Tackle is the place to go, Tell Dave I sent you.
