Epic Fishing and Scalloping

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach Fishing Report
Capt. Josh Fritz

Inshore and Near shore fishing is good, red fish and snook are holding around points, coves, and mangrove shorelines. Green backs are the bait of choice, use a 2/0 to 3/0 circle hook and a 25 pound leader. Fish a good incoming tide for snook and a high outgoing tide for red fish.

Gag grouper action is great in 8 to 12 feet on rocks, live green backs free line are getting hammered by big grouper. I like to load up the bait well with green backs and anchor casting distance away from the rock. Take 4 to 6 greenies to chum them up, make sure you have a stout rod and reel with at least 60 pound braided line with a 60 pound leader 4 feet long with a 5/0 circle hook. Grunts and mangrove snapper are on the rocks also the way I like to fish for them is with a 1/8 ounce jig head and a medium size shrimp, cast up current give some live and when the line come tight fish on. Cobia and sharks are showing up as well.

Scallop season is epic this year we are getting our boat limit in no time at all two hours or less. Water depth 5 to 8 feet North of Bay port.

Book your fishing or scalloping trip ASAP dates are filling up fast.
