Fall Fishing Madness

Capt. Josh Fritz
October 6, 2019
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall is in the air.

Man i love this time of year the Fall months of October and November is in my opinion the best two months of the year for fishing in Hernando County. From inshore to offshore the fish are hungry and ready to eat, as the water cools the fish get aggressive and eat just about anything you offer them. Large schools of red fish are roaming the backwaters best bite has been on the higher water with live pilchards and pin fish i like to rig them with a 2/0 circle hook and a 25-30 pound leader. Snook are pushing there way back closer to the creeks and rock bars again live pilchards are my go to bait for snook fishing, a moving tide is all you need incoming or outgoing tide don't seem to matter much right now. Sea trout are also holding on the shallow flats in 2-5 feet of water live pilchards or top water plugs early in the morning produces some awesome action.

The shallow water gag grouper bite is off the hook, we target these hard fighters in 8-12 feet of water with live pilchards and pin fish. Rig a stout rod with at least a 60 pound leader and a 6/0 circle hook. Free line the baits back to the rock and hold on tight the gags are very aggressive. Out a little deeper in 15-30 feet we are catching some big gag grouper along with mangrove snappers and hog fish.

If you are wanting to catch a lot of fish give us a call ASAP we fill up very fast.
