Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report For Hernando Beach FL

This is my most favorite time of year to fish here along the Nature Coast. October and November are the best months to catch a huge variety of game fish, with the cooling of the Gulf waters and the abundance of bait the game fish are feeding and fating up for the upcoming winter months. Sea trout are in 2 to 6 feet of water around grass flats and kelp grass, the best bite seems to be on a high outgoing tide. The Mirrolure 17MR in the 808 color is deadly to trout or a white soft plastic fluke rigged with a jig head or weedless style is another great lure. Most of the trout are ranging from 14 to 22 inches. Red fish are schooled up in large numbers around points and oyster bars look for the big mullet schools and moving water for some great red fish action. Live bait is best right now I like live green backs and pin fish for bait. A moving tide in or out is producing steady action with red fish. Snook are every where from outside rocks and the way back creeks and canals live bait like green backs are my favorite or a top water spook jr in the bone color is very good. Shallow water grouper action is unreal right now and will only get better. Monster gag grouper in 6 to 10 feet on rock piles, best bait is frozen thread fin hearing, pin fish and live green backs lures are my way to catch them the Rapala 10 inch magnum plugs in orange, mullet, and fire tiger color is all you need. If bait fishing the shallow rocks here is how I set up my boat. Get a marker jug with a 6 to 8 ounce egg sinker and 15 feet of line for the water depth, motor to your spot drop the jug in the middle of the rock find your anchor set and place the stern of your boat about 20 yards off the rock. Doing this you will catch more grouper and not spook them from there home from being right on top of the rock. Spanish mackerel are thick on the grass flats and shallow rocks free line a green back on a 2/0 long shank hook or use a white soft plastic on a 1/4 ounce jig head working fast through the water. Stop into Precision Tackle located in the Well Care plaza on U.S HWY 19 in Spring Hill for all your tackle needs.
