Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach Inshore Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz

Fishing the flats in and around Hernando beach is great. Red fish are holding on the outside points, oyster bars, mangroves. Live bait is the best bet right now for reds, try using live green backs and pin fish. Rigged the bait with a 2/0 circle hook and a 25 to 30 pound leader. Cast the bait up current and let it float down into the strike zone. Most of the red fish are in the upper slot and over 25 to 31 inches. Trout are in the deeper grass flats 8 to 12 feet on spotty bottom, a 1/4 ounce jig head and a little Jon soft plastic will put fish in the boat. Sharks are all over the place any live or dead bait will do fine. Tarpon are thick from Bay port to Chassahowitzka get out early to spot rolling poons and cast a 10 inch white, green, or brown Hogy soft plastic lure at the twitch it a few times to get the tarpon interested in it and hang on for a long fight. Scallop season starts July 1st I got a few dates left open for July give me a call and get your trip booked ASAP, I now take Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards. Stop into Precision Tackle located in Spring Hill Fl in the Well Care plaza on U.S. 19 tell Dave Capt. Josh sent you.
