Happy fishermen of Hernando County

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

For the people that read my reports I want to thank you for your emails.
Finally I have had a week of great grouper fishing. The only trouble we seen is the weather was not so nice. I have to thank my radar unit for keeping me safe. The Gulf was full of storms but I stayed far away from the storms. I have not had much luck in the shallow water catching grouper but the storms pushed me into sixty foot of water and slammed the red and gag grouper. I know we even caught but not landed some big goliath grouper as they broke eighty pound fishing line. On one trip we caught big red grouper and other trips we caught big gags. Many large gray snapper also were caught in the deep water. Be careful the area I am talking about is about forty to fifty miles from shore. I had to add to the cost of my trips for extra fuel. Right now you can do a trip for up to four people here in Hernando County for $700.00 for a normal offshore trip and $800.00 for the extended trip. This is still cheaper than most trips in a tourist area.
Tarpon fishing has slowed down in the Chasawiska area. Sharks are everywhere in the flats. The biggest redfish at this time of year are offshore. Blue fish and hound fish as well as ladyfish are around. Bonita are chasing bait schools in many locations.
