Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in and around Hernando beach is very good both inshore and offshore. Red fish are holding in there spring and summer spots all ready. Look for them around the outside points and islands with a good water flow and mullet schools, Live bait will get there attention faster than a lure. Pin fish and green backs are my top choice for bait, use a 2/0 to 3/0 circle hook with a 25lb leader no weights or bobbers just free line the bait into the strike zone and hold on, most of the reds are running in the middle to upper slot 20" to 27". Snook action is really heating up along the mangroves and oyster bars, live green backs rigged the same way for reds will work just fine. Trout are in the shallow grass flats 1 to 5 feet around spotty and grassy bottom MirrOlure 17MR in the 808 color is deadly to trout. Out in 8 to 10 feet of water the mackerel bite is on fire, use a 1/4 ounce jig head with a white little john or a live shrimp on a 2/0 xl shank hook is the way to go. Pompano are showing up on the rocks and shallow grass flats and cobia will be here very soon. Stop into Precision Tackle located on HWY 19 in Spring Hill to get your tackle box loaded with lures and rods and reels cleaned and ready to hear some drag screaming action. Book your trip ASAP to get in this great fishing action.
