Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
With the cold water temperatures and these stiff cold winds out of the north it has been difficult to get out and find fish. The days I have been out the BITE has been decent considering the elements. Jenkins Creek has been producing trout that are hitting small pinfish and shrimp placed under a popping cork. A variety of jigs and bucktails have worked also. We have seen a few snook but getting them to bite has been a challenge. Out at Cutters rock the blue fish bite is excellent on shrimp and small silver spoons. Aripeka area is holding redfish that are being caught on cutbait and a variety of lures as long as they are worked slow!!
Lure selection is important but don't forget to try a variety when on the water. Not only try a variety of colors (gold, brown, white) but try a variety of lures(spoons, jigs, lures) and use them a variety of ways (fast, slow, really slow). When you find something that works STICK WITH IT until it stops working. If the lures are not working then do not forget to try a variety of baits (cut bait, white bait, pinfish, shrimp)!
Grouper season pretty much closes until April but there are still plenty of fish available to catch. I would rather catch a 26" redfish on 12 lb. test anyway but hey, inshore is my love. Best wishes and tight lines!!
