Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach FL Fishing Report
Capt. Josh Fritz
With the summer heat here fishing can be tough at times. Beat the heat and fish early try to get to your fishing spot by day break when the temperature is cooler the fish will be more happy and ready to eat. Trout are in the deeper grass flats in 10 to 14 feet of water. Soft plastic jigs rigged with a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce jig head is my go to set up for deep water trout fishing, baits that work best are white gulp shrimp and new penny gulp shrimp. Work the bait slowly across the bottom, in the same area you will catch sea bass, sharks, and flounder on the same lure. Back inshore the red fish action is best on a early morning high tide live bait is the best way to go. Pin fish and green backs rigged with a 2/0 circle hook is all you need. Target the outside points with good current flow for best action.
Scallop season is going great we each scallop trip we are limiting out in 2 hours or less. Best area has been North of Bay port to Chassahowitzka in 6 to 8 feet of water. Don't spend to much time in one area if you do not see them give it 10 minutes and move on until you find them.
Book a trip fishing and scalloping is very good. Also stop into Precision Tackle located on U.S 19 in Spring Hill in the Well Care plaza for all your fishing needs. Tell Dave Capt. Josh sent you in.
