Hernando Beach Inshore Report

Hernando Beach Inshore Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz

Inshore action is great in the early morning hours and late evening hours when the temperature is cooler. A good incoming tide first thing in the morning is ideal for a great red fish and snook bite. Live green backs are my best bet for reds and snook. I like to rig the bait with a 2/0 circle hook and a 3 foot piece of 25lb leader. Nose hook the green backs for best action from the bait they will dive and surface causing nervous action making the reds and snook to go crazy. Target points with a good current flow and mullet schools. Size of the red fish are ranging from 22 to 30 inches.

Trout are out deep 10 to 14 feet of water. When I'm targeting trout I like to drift fish to cover more ground, rig up a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce jig head with a white or new penny gulp shrimp. Cast and left the jig drift with the boat slowly bouncing the jig across the bottom doing this you will catch along with the trout are sea bass, sharks, grunts, cobia, and flounder.

Scallops are very thick this year but they are hanging in a little deeper water 5 to 8 feet so going at a low tide is best. Book a trip fishing is off the hook and scalloping is very good limits in 1 hour.
