Hernando Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz
May 11, 2015
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

May fishing is here and the game fish are hungry. Tarpon are showing up the numbers are are getting better by each day. Schools of 1 to 12 have been spotted from Aripeka to Homosassa. The poons are holding in deeper water 4 to 8 feet get out around the end of the channel and you are in the right area and depth. Live bait always get works live green backs, mullet and pin fish free lined or under a cork works great. Fly fishing is well known in the Nature Coast from Bay port to Homosassa a 12 weight setup is needed with plenty of backing. Tarpon toads in the black/purple and yellow are my go to colors.

Trout are working there way to the deeper grass flats 6 to 10 feet a 1/4 ounce jig head and a little john soft plastic in white or rootbeer color is producing some nice size fish. Mackerel are still out there along with sea bass and flounder. Sharks are all over the place just anchor or drift with a chum bag and any kind of bait and hang on. Bull sharks, sharp nose, black tips and a few tiger sharks are being caught.

Red fish and snook are chewing good in the back country waters. Live green backs are the bait of choice. Best action is on a incoming tide. Look for the big mullet schools that's where the reds and snook are holding.

Scallop season starts June 27 Th book your scallop trip fast the dates will be gone before you know it, also I offer a fishing and scalloping combo charter that is a 6 hour trip fishing in the morning and scalloping in the afternoon.

Fishing is great and the weather is great book your fishing adventure ASAP. Stop into Precision Tackle located in Spring Hill Fl in the Well care plaza for all you fishing, scalloping, and spear fishing needs. Tell Dave Capt. Josh sent you.
