Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore fishing has been good for red fish and snook from Aripeka to Chassahowitzka fishing the outer island and mangrove shorelines. Best action on my recent charters has been the last hour of the incoming and first two hours of the outgoing tide. Live green backs aka white bait is the bait of choice right now. Snook are holding around outer points and swashes with a good current flow live green backs are the way to go.
Tarpon are here in great numbers we have hooked some nice size fish ranging from 80 to 130 pounds in the last week on fly rod and soft plastic flukes. Target areas from Bay port to Homosassa in 3 to 6 feet work with the tide, high tide they will be running closer to the outer islands and low tide a little further out. Sandy bottom makes it easy to see them but remember they can see you to.
On the shallow rocks piles the Spanish mackerel bite is good along with big mangrove snapper, grunts, sea bass, cobia, sharks, and some monster gag grouper. Grouper are closed right now so catch and release only till July 1st.
Scallop season starts June 27 this year and dates are filling up, Book your scallop trip early to lock in your date. Also we can do combo fishing and scalloping trips.
Stop into Precision Tackle located in Spring Hill FL in the Well Care plaza, tell Dave that Capt. Josh sent you for all your fishing, spear fishing and scalloping needs.
