Hernando Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz
August 4, 2015
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Finally we get a break in the weather. I got out today on a half day shallow water grouper trip and did very well, the water temperature is 79.8 in 8 feet of water. The clarity of the water is murky and tea color 1 mile past the tri pod. It will take a week or so for the water to clear back up. The grouper bite was great in 8 feet with the cooler water temperature and dirty water the bite was on dead bait. Frozen threadfins was the way to go. Along with the grouper we are catching big grunts, big sea bass, flounder, and sharks.

Inshore the red fish are spotty with all this fresh water run off target the out side islands and rock bars. live or dead bait is the way to go pin fish and green backs for live bait and fresh cut mullet for cut bait. Snook are all over target points and coves this cooler water will have the big ones chewing. Trout are mixed deep and shallow this year, fishing deep 8 to 10 feet use a 1/4 ounce jig head and gulp shrimp. In the back waters the trout are hanging around oyster bars and grass flats the 17MR in the 808 and 50 color produces some nice fish.
