Hernando Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz
December 29, 2016
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando beach fishing report.

Fishing is just absolutely great right now in the back country waters. Red fish are holding tight to lime rock bottom and oyster bars fish the last few hours of the incoming tide and first of the outgoing tide. Live jumbo shrimp or pin fish has been the bait of choice. Rigged with a 20 to 25 pound leader and 1/0 to 2/0 circle hook, cast your bait up current or ahead of the activity and let it sit. Most of the reds are ranging from 18 to 26 inches.

Trout are thick in 1 to 3 feet of water around grass flats and lime rock bottom, top water plugs such as the rapala skitter walk or spook Jr will produce some nice action. Soft plastic flukes in white and watermelon red is my go to colors. Size of the trout 15 to 24 inches.

Black drum are holding with the reds and around Springs and muddy bottom dead shrimp with a 1/0 circle hook is my rig for these guys. A moving tide is producing a good bite. Size of the drum 14 to 22 inches right now.
