IT'S FISHING TIME!!

Man what a great month April has given us anglers along the Nature Coast, with great weather and clam sea's boating has been a pleasure. Red fish are schooling up in large schools. Target areas close to the outside points and rock bars, a good moving tide is needed to catch these fish, Both live baits and lures are getting the reds to bite. For live bait cut pin fish has been by far the best bait to use. Rig up a 20 to 30lb leader with a 3/0 circle hook and free line the bait up by the shore line. For lures a top water Rapala Skitter walk is producing well in the morning or late evening, I like to use the mullet, white, trout, or bone color. Or try a 3" white gulp on a 1/16oz jig head or weedless hook and slow bounce the jig in the strike zone. The trout action is going great, you can still find trout around the mouths of creeks and on the outside points and rock bars, Top water lures are a sure bet or a mirr o lure 17mr in the 808 color is great to use. Cobia are all over the flats in the past 2 weeks I have boated 6 cobia one being a keeper at 35" to the fork. A medium heavy rod with a Gulp eel is doing great or a 4" gulp shrimp on a 1/4oz jig head. Tarpon are here but the numbers are low we will get more bigger schools of tarpon to show up and a few more weeks.

Scallop season will open early this year, the season opener will be June 25Th and closed on Sept 25Th. make sure you get a divers down flag so other boaters are aware that people are in the water.
