Mackerel Fishing

Capt. Joel Gant
April 23, 2014
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring is here and so are the fish. Spring is the time when the sun is shining, the skies are clear and the fish are on the move. Right now we are getting a lot of Spanish Mackerel in the 8 -10 foot areas anywhere there is structure. If there is structure there are bait fish, if we have bait fish, predator fish will be around. I like to put out a chum bag, get it working with a chum slick, then I use a 1/8-1/4 jig head with either a white or silver jerk bat. I like the Zoom, DOA or Mirror Lures. Work the bait fairly fast thru the water and hold on, the hit will be hard and fast. We are also getting Seatrout, Seabass, small Grouper and a few other species while bouncing these same baits on the bottom. If you would like to set up a trip on the Gulf, please call or check out my website.
