Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
So soon we have winter type condition. Seems to me we just turned the clock into 2013 and now we are looking at 2014. Before I get started Always Fishing Guide Service would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Once again, we spent our time fishing in the flats with lots of success. All of my trips were spent fishing the shallow areas from Tarpon Springs to Crystal River as most of my clients wanted to fish inshore or backwaters. The wind had the offshore waters bumpy. Deep holes and Backwater Rivers are the places to fish. At this time of year, I encourage catch and release of the big trout as they are full of eggs. One of my trips was fly fishing for Mangrove Snapper in the deep holes way in the back of the areas I fish. The best fly was a white and silver pattern fished fast imitating white bait. Along with the Snapper were the Jacks bending a 12w rod. We saw two good size snook look at the fly and turn back into the deep hole.
I personally went Pre-fishing with a friend Stan Hickson. The fog was so thick and the temperature felt so cold we went home. The next day was my charter. You could not believe the difference. The sun warmed up the air and the fishing was excellent. We caught and released over thirty sea trout.
Just north of Pine Island off Bayport is producing many Redfish. Get there soon, as the Redfish are heading for the very shallow backwaters. The fishing spots around Chassahowitzka River, Homosassa and Crystal River is excellent catching Spanish mackerel, Blue Fish and Sea Trout. Just remember this is till the waters temperatures dictate to the fish to go way in the back of the rivers and creeks.
At this time from my family to yours we want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
