outstanding fishing grouper, cobia kingfish

Capt. Rick Rodriguez
April 19, 2010
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Live bait is working well also; pinfish, pigfish, spot-tail pinfish, and sand perch will make any fishing trip more productive. Most of these baits have been used on conventional bottom tackle and others free lined. Either way they do not last long swimming around with so many grouper waiting to gobble them up. Keep in mind while catching so many fish one after the other, take time to retie your hooks and replace leader material. Many big fish stories begin with the words, "you should have seen the one that got away". Avoid saying this phrase by getting in the habit of constantly checking your terminal tackle and drag setting. These simple disciplines will result in you landing more big fish.

Hernando Beach Fishing Forecast:

Forecast: More Gag and Red grouper as the water continues to warm up. Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel will increase in numbers as the bait schools work their way north through our area. We will start catching Cobias any day now. They are overdue, but like always they will show up and we will catch them.
Sea ya on the water,
Capt Rick
