Spring Fishing Action

Capt. Josh Fritz
April 15, 2018
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach Fishing Report.

Spring fishing action is in full swing. We have a wide verity of game fish to target right now, red fish are all over the outer islands and mangrove points. Look for good structure and mullet schools for big reds, incoming tide ha produced the best action. Live green backs rigged with a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook and a 25 pound leader is all you need. Snook are also holding in the same areas live bait is also the way to go for snook. Sea trout are working there way offshore slowly we have a good trout bite in 3 to 5 feet around rocks and sea grass. Try a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig head rigged with a little Jon soft plastic in white or root beer color.

Cobia are here and you can find these hard fighting fish in shallow and deep waters. Grass flats are great to sight fishing cobia off sting ray look in 2 to 5 feet on grass and sand flats, use a 12 inch black bass worm rigged with a 1/8 ounce jig head or a live green back will do the job. Offshore you will find cobia on rocks and wrecks anchor up current with a chum block out use a live green back or pin fish for bait.

Spanish mackerel are all over the deeper flats 6 to 10 feet of water my favorite way to target macks is to drift with a white soft plastic and a 1/4 ounce jig head bouncing along the bottom and mid depth. Triple tails are hanging on the crab trap markers use a small live shrimp and a #1 circle hook for these tasty fish.

We will be seeing tarpon showing soon keep a look out for them in 3 to 8 feet of water.

Book your trip ASAP dates fill up fast.
