Summer Fishing and Scalloping

Capt. Josh Fritz
July 2, 2015
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore action for red fish is good on the higher tides first thing in the morning. Target the outer islands, mangrove points, and oyster bars. Live bait is working great me such as green backs and pin fish. Fresh cut mullet is a sure summer time bait for reds. Trout are hit and miss we are finding some in 8 to 12 feet gulp shrimp or white little johns rigged on a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce jig head fast twitches with the rod tip. Gag grouper season is open the shallow water grouper bite is great in 6 to 12 feet. The key is to chum but not to much, fish structure with big undercuts. Scallops are good bit a little deep right now 8 to 10 feet they will work there way into shallower water soon
