Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer Fishing & Scalloping Is Great
Fishing in Hernando County is great we got large schools of red fish on the outer points, cuts, mangroves, and oyster bars. Live bait is producing the best catches I like pin fish and green backs for bait, Use a 3/0 circle hook and a 25 to 30 pound leader, cut the tail off of the bait and place the hook through the tail end for a longer cast and sent release. Look for mullet schools and keep casting distance away most of the reds are 16 to 34 inches.
Trout are in deeper water 10 to 12 feet, look for spotty bottom grass, sand holes, sponges, rocks. A white gulp shrimp on a 1/4 to 3/8 oz jig head works the best. In the same area you will all so find large sea bass, sharks, cobia, and mackrel.
This is the best year I have ever seen for scallops we are getting our limit in no time, water depth is 5 to 7 feet and they are huge, If you are not sure on how or where to find these tasty scallops give me a call and book a trip I will so you every thing you need to know from finding them to cleaning them, also you can book a full day trip 4 hours of fishing and the rest of the day scalloping. Give me a call for special rates.
