Winter Time Fishing

Capt. Josh Fritz
December 26, 2015
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore fishing action is great. Trout are holding in 1 to 5 feet of water around grass flats and kelp grass aka rock grass, Soft plastic jigs are working very good. What I use on my charters are Mirr O Lure little johns in white, root beer, water melon red and golden bream colors rig them on a 1/8 ounce jig head with a loop knot. Using a loop knot it will give the jig more free action making the trout to key into the bait faster. Also the mirrodines 17mr in the 808 and 50 color is a great bait for trout fishing. Redfish bite is good on the high outgoing tide, bait is the best bet right now live shrimp, pin fish, and cut lady fish has been the best bait. Black drum are around oyster bars and rocky banks live or dead shrimp rigged on a 1/0 circle hook dead sticking has been the best way to catch the drum.
