Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is a unique time of year, you can spend the day in creeks catching Red fish of all sizes, look for trout or run out to the Sheepshead rocks and get some convicts. I personally love days like this, minus the cold, but you can't ask for everything to be perfect… When we get good weather days you can get out there and have some epic days on the water, today was one of those days for my clients and I. We started out in one of my favorite creek spots and came across a school of mixed size Red fish and Trout, we tossed DOA shrimp at them and worked our baits very slow, the reds were very eager to eat but the trout had to be convinced with some gulp scent. After getting some very nice Reds and some Nice Trout we decided to continue our run out to the Sheepshead to get some fillets for the Table and after some sketchy journey through the fog we pulled up to some rocks to find the Sheepshead more than willing to cooperate with us. I prefer to use small live bait hooks with a ¼ ounce egg sinker rigged as a knocker rig for these guys, some people like to use jig heads, but I have found that it is easier for most people to get a good hook set with this set up and you can hide the shrimp better. Well, after we got enough for a couple of dinners we headed back towards shore to hit some more creeks, we were again meet with some great action, the trout were fighting over our baits and the small reds were all over the place. We left the fish eating and headed back for the dock with some great memories and awesome pics, we should have some awesome fishing over the next week if this weather holds like it is suppose to, the best days being Monday and Tuesday, I hope you guys are able to get out and tangle with some nature coast beauties!

Feb. 1st water temps for Homosassa: 55 at the mouth, 52 in 7 foot of water, 58 at the first slow zone, 56 around lil Homosassa. Keep track of what you catch and the water temp this time of year.
