Homosassa is still the "Scallop Capital of Florida"!!!

Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Homosassa is still the "Scallop Capital of Florida"!!!

Thank you…Thank you…Thank you!!! With about a week left to this year's scallop season we have had by far our best season ever! Not only have we done more scallop charters than any previous year, starting with opening day the scallops have been bigger than anyone can ever remember and on most charters limits were very easy to obtain. Some days the water was so shallow you didn't even have to put your head underwater to reach the scallops! Please remember to book you Scallop charters early for next season, as many families return every year to enjoy the "Underwater Easter Egg Hunt"!

As the water temperatures start to cool the fishing action should start to explode with the arrival of schools of baitfish migrating south. We've already heard reports of the huge Bull Redfish on the Spoil Banks north of Crystal River. Try live shrimp, live or cut Pinfish or cut Ladyfish weighted on the bottom for some drag screaming fun! The St. Martin Keys are also a good place to look for schools of Redfish this time of the year work the incoming tide for best results. As the number of boats decreases from the Scallop fleet, the lush grass flats from Black Rock to the south near Chassahowitzka all the way to the Bird Rack north of the Homosassa River will again become the place to look for Speckled Sea Trout returning to feed after their journey offshore to spawn. Hopefully all the floating grass will be gone soon so we'll be able to use your favorite top water lures or jig heads with soft plastics behind Cajun Thunders. October has always been one of my favorite months to fish here on Florida's Nature Coast. The weather is not as brutal hot and the fishing action usually heats up with multiple species being caught in a single day. If you haven't fished with us before take advantage of our "Introductory Offer" of $299.00 for a full day charter for one to four anglers. This rate includes everything except your lunch, beverages and gratuity. The "Introductory Offer" is valid September 26, 2012 through November 30, 2012, only on our Carolina Skiff charters. The "Introductory Offer" will not be available next year or will not be offered on charters aboard our new Young Boat. Check our web-site at www.HomosassaRedfish.com for more details or to reserve your charter. We only have a few prime dates left in October; book now to enjoy a day on the water in one of Florida's last best kept fishing secrets!!!

Update, Young Boat, www.Young-Boats.com, the building of "Red-Eddie or Knot" is almost completed, I've been getting progress pictures almost daily and my new boat is still scheduled to be delivered before the end of September. If you're planning on attending the Tampa Florida Sportsman Show on September 22nd & 23rd, at the Tampa Fairgrounds my new boat will be on display at the Young booth, at the end of the 100 aisle. Stop by and let me know what you think about the new fishing machine? You can print out a discount coupon for the show at www.FloridaSportsman.com. It's getting closer every day! Who's going to be the first to charter the new boat???

I will be the guest speaker at The Golden Triangle Fishing Club meeting, Wednesday, September 26th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Bill Currie Ford, 5815 N. Dale Mabry Hwy. in Tampa. Please stop by to say hello and ask questions about fishing here on Florida's Nature Coast. Contact Richard Steinmetz at 813-263-6435, for additional details or directions.

As I did last January, I will be hosting another group of anglers back to Turneffe Flats Lodge, www.TFlats.com, in Belize, January 12, 2013 through January 19, 2013. Once at the lodge the all-inclusive cost is $3970.75 per person when fishing with two anglers per boat. Included in the package is 6 days of fully guided fishing with two anglers per boat and your guide, all land and sea transfers on scheduled transfer days, three substantial meals per day and per-dinner appetizers and air conditioned, double occupancy lodging. Not included in the package are flights to and from Belize, bar tab, fly and gift shop purchases, fishing equipment rentals, Belize fishing license and gratuities. As space is very limited please give me a call at 352-382-3939, to answer any questions or to reserve your adventure.

Only a few openings left come join us for three days of fishing at the "1st Annual Reel Animals Fishing Show Sailfish Tournament" at the Zancudo Lodge, www.zancudolodge.com, in Costa Rica, February 23, 2013 through February 27, 2013. The three day tournament, Sunday, 2/24, Monday, 2/25 and Tuesday, 2/26 is being held during peak Sailfish time and will be filmed for broadcast nationwide on the Reel Animals Fishing Show. Space is limited to the first 20 anglers to register. Once at the lodge the all-inclusive cost is $3195.00 per person when fishing with two people per boat, it's less if you have three anglers per boat. The only other expense would be your airfare to and from Costa Rica and tips for the staff at the lodge. Most of us will be flying on JetBlue out of Orlando on Saturday, 2/23, for $450.00 roundtrip. Contact Greg Mufson at Zancudo Lodge, 650-255-7815, for more details or to reserve your adventure. The Zancudo Lodge, where over 70, I.G.F.A. records have been set, is Costa Rica's premier fishing resort - world renowned for both its inshore and offshore fishing. Voted as the #1 fishing lodge in Costa Rica, and surrounded by the beauty of Costa Rican wildlife, idyllic foliage, and private beaches, The Zancudo Lodge offers guests a variety of activities accompanied by luxuriously appointed rooms and the finest and freshest of our regional organic cuisine.
