Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

In Homosassa near Locklear Islands I have always found that Fall brings with to it a dozen or so schools of hungry migratory bull reds. Plus, the residential redfish have already bunched up fattening up before winter arrives.
To the north, The Nature Coast Keys and off the Progress Energy Complex (PEC) reds are frequently targeted by guides and recreational Anglers with successful adventures. Reds also frequent "moon rock" or limestone outcroppings and oyster bars, where they feed on mullet, crabs, shrimp, pinfish and pigfish. For the coastal keys, the last half of an incoming tide turns on the redfish as they feel less startled with another foot or two of water over their heads. Try casting near exposed rocks and bars. Either anchor or gently troll your electric motor.
I have had good luck with MirrOlure's Top Dog (94M-808). Tomorrow it sure to honk from the SW with a huge high tide by noon. With the wind blowing 10-25 knots(I dubbed Capt. Matt Locklear "30-Knots") it helps to cast bigger plugs to make more racket to get their attention. They are so effective on schooling reds that I take the trebles off and use a single hook on the tail of it. I press the barb down to protect the mouth if it is over-sized or for quicker releasing into the cooler lol.
If you are too busy to go fishing you are missing out.
