Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Citrus County report from area anglers and guides

Ben at MacRae’s in Homosassa said Capt. Charlie Harris caught his limit of reds for his

clients. Capt. Fred Lyles guided a party to 6 redfish. Capt. John Bazo caught his limit of

redfish and a sea bass. Capt. Nick Warhurst caught 8 grouper to 26 inches.

Larry from Skidmore’s in Crystal River had a lot of great catches to report for the past

week. Brian Johnson and Fred Morel from Bellview caught 6 grouper and a lot of big

Key West grunts. They were trolling in 45 feet of water using Mann’s Stretch Lures and

sardines for bait. Mary Ann Hathaway caught a 35 inch cobia on a pin fish near the

humps. Hathaway also caught 2 tout and 3 mackerel using Clark’s silver spoons and

shrimp for bait. Chester Freeman and his family caught 9 trout and 3 Spanish Mackerel

in the 28 to 29 inch range west of Gomez Rock this past week. They were fishing with

live shrimp and Yo-Zuri lures. Herb McNeely and party caught 9 grouper, lots of Key

West grunts, and black sea bass. They were fishing in 31 feet of water suing sardines,

whole mullet and thread fin herring for bait. Larry also said David Robson and Alex

Urzen caught 6 Spanish Mackerel and 2 king mackerel near the artificial reef. They were

trolling red king spoons and 1 and 2 oz. silver and red king rigs.

Diann from D & D Bait and Tackle in Inglis also had a lot of good fishing action in her

area of the county. Diann said Dave Kloote of Palm Harbor fished with Capt. Ken Roy

on the Whopper Stopper this past week and caught a 36 pound cobia on cut bait near the

mouth of the Withlacoochee River. David Mosteller and Jay Hobbs of Crystal River

caught a mixed bag of 5 trout up to 22 inches, a 48 inch black tip shark, a 36 inch

mackerel, a 22 inch redfish and released a 26 inch cobia. The pair were fishing north of

the Yankeetown boat ramp using live shrimp and pin fish for bait. Howie Williams,

Mike Ferris and Karl Grimes caught lots of sharks, 3 grouper up to 12 pounds, 3 trout

and some mackerel. Diann said sharks are everywhere and Capt. Tom caught a 5 foot 7

inch black tip shark.
