Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear
February 7, 2003
Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Locklear Travels to Outdoors World Orlando

Looks like perfect weather for exhibiting at Bass Pro Shops(BPR) Outdoors World in Orlando, Florida this weekend. Forecast calls for northeast winds 15 mph and gusty. This will help pack the Men’s mega store.

Looks like I might have to put up a windbreak to protect my fire from going out. Actually, I will not be using my usual Coleman gas stove for safety reasons. I have an electric fry daddy, that I will use to cook some hushpuppies topped with homemade guava jelly. Uncle Ben does not have anything on this Florida Cracker except Johnny Morris’s blessing and a label from BPR.

The way I see it, cooking hushpuppies is a great way to meet with people. You will know that you are getting close when you smell the bacon. Bacon and cooking outdoors are two key components of the Homosassa tradition when we cook our shore lunches with the fresh catch of the day.

I am hoping that the promotions manager of the show, Ted Ensminger will allow me to cook in the booth, as I have not secured clearance on this issue. Perhaps a few hushpuppies may succeed in bribing him.

Most people who know me real well, thinks Bass Pro Shops should be paying me to appear. Well, maybe so, but that is not the case With the economy the way it is and the country unsure of its future, a lot of people are holding onto their money. That was last year. I am hoping things will break loose anytime. Coming to Outdoors World is one place I will pay my part happily to be part of the family.

Because I cannot man the booth by myself and my family has other plans, I have recruited some help. Captains Gary Cox and William Toney of the Homosassa Guides Association will be on staff and promoting our local guide services.

Also, Capt. Ed Lewis of Ocala, Florida will have his own booth under the Florida Sport Fishing Charters name. Ed has been a member of the Homosassa Guides Association for 3 years. He was a client of mine at one time and has become a good friend. Ed’s trademark has a southern twain. Ed is extremely kind and savvy. Like me he loves the Lord and enjoys taking families and kids fishing. Stop by and see his PowerPoint presentation of the Homosassa and Crystal river area.

Craig Andrews of Fish Tales Taxidermy will be in my homosassafishing.com booth Saturday and Sunday to display his award-winning masterpieces. I have not met Dave to date, but I am sure our debut-networking project will help us both. His web site address is http://www.fishtalestaxidermy.com

And finally, I will have on hand photographs and trophy fish mounts of largemouth and peacock bass. Bill Dance who will, by the way be at BPR throughout the week took one such trip. See this web site for speaking schedule at http://outdoor-world.com for entire format for February 15. Bill Dance will be there at BPR to meet the public.

In addition, at least 40 major U.S A. factory representatives and venders will be on hand to personally display the latest fishing equipment and to answer questions related to them.

Hope to see you there this weekend beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. February 7. We will be there all day on February 8 from 9 am to 9 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. The address is Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, 5156 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819

For more information or directions call Outdoors World at 407-563-5217. Or if you are coming by to visit me and get lost you can call me on my cell phone at 352-422-1927.

Have a God Day!
