Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

K.C. Crumps, Homosassa River Re-Opens November 14, 2003

Attention Homosassa River Lovers: K.C. Crump Restaurant and Bar is re-opening under new local ownership this Saturday, November 14. A complete renovation has been completed. This is a very exciting time for all who have waited so long for this day. The new owners, Byron and Cindy Rogers have hired over 85 employees with 12 chefs or cooks. Be one of the first to stop in and enjoy some tropical drinks, fresh local seafood, steaks and burgers. Dockside is open at 11:00 am and the main dining inside is open at 3:00 pm. Reservations are suggested for the main dining lobby only. Call 628-1500.

For the fishing report; November began with some very windy conditions out of the northeast. This put the end to redfish for me and my parties. We enjoyed some great Homosassa trout fishing.

Sandy and Jo Sharpe of Black Diamond in Lecanto enjoyed a sunny day on Saturday, November 1st by bagging 8 spotted sea trout up to 19 inches. Their grown up children were aboard my boat during a half day charter and reeled in a few nice trout and several throwbacks.

Most trout are being landed in 4 feet of water in Homosassa Bay. Cajun Thunders with 1/8 oz. Cotee jigs, and 5M and Catch 2000 Mirrolures are working well. Drifting the flats works best instead of anchoring.

Judge William C. O’Kelly of the Homosassa Fishing Club along with 8 buddies hired Capt. Mark Zorn, Capt. Fred Lyles and I for an all day fishing trip. Winds up to 30 miles per hour did not keep the group from enjoying the day out on the gulf on Monday. 47 spotted sea trout up to 20 inches were bagged by the group in 5 hours fishing. Most all the trout were caught using the red Cajun thunder cork rigged with a 1/8 oz, red head and a while soft plastic tail with a red tip. Curly tails in white and red/hot tip seemed to be most successful.

Steve Hammond of the Wilson Construction Company enjoyed their day out on the Chassowitzka flats with a group of guys and one gal and four guides. Capt. Marvin Williams, Capt. Mark Zorn, and I guided 9 anglers to numerous trout and several redfish too big to keep. The trout were biting very good and most had enough trout fishing by noon that we went for the bigger harder pulling redfish, the remainder of the day. Numerous redfish were released and two of the largest ones by the only lady aboard my boat. That is what a good woman will do to you when you bring her fishing!

The world wide web brought me a client all the way from England. David Trent and partner, Linda enjoyed catching Florida salt water sport fish. A shore dinner was planned and they enjoyed a fine meal with sea trout as the main course. Calm conditions made catching fish tough. The glassy bay made it quite hard for us to even catch enough for a shore dinner, however, both David and Linda did indeed come through with a 3 nice trout, the largest was a nice 20 incher that David landed. After the shore dinner, we headed back out to try our luck for redfish. The tide was already going out and I knew this would make conditions tough again. Both caught redfish, however, no big ones, just some in the 15 inch range, which were fun to catch and release.
