Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear
December 26, 2004
Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing and Hunting Action is Red-Hot

From my good guide buddies reports, redfishing is excellent in the river.

Capt. Jim Long, a native guide and our new Homosassa Guides Association President reported excellent action the river catching redfish up to 30 inches.

Besides many small redfish, there were slot-sized redfish, enough to more than limit out. In fact Long called in another guide, Capt. Marvin Williams to the feeding frenzy.

Long, a Mercury Outboards Saltwater Team member released more than 50 redfish using artificial baits.

Also, Capt. William Toney and party landed the most redfish of his career with a 75 fish day.

This is good news and should prove to be a productive Spring once these fish grow into nice slot sized fish.

My fun lately has consisted of pheasant and quail hunting at the "Six Mile Hunting Preserve" near Chiefland, Florida. I spent a day last week with my son and we bagged over 20 pheasant during an English style shoot.

The quail are flying fast this year and some new hunters have had trouble hitting them. One hunter actually sat in the jeep discouraged when preserve owner Jared Williams gave some advice.

Williams told me young man he was thinking too much and trying to aim too hard. Just throw the gun up and shoot quickly in the area of the bird. The hunter became a better shot and bagged his share of the birds.

The Preserve consists of 2500 acres and a new lodge has been built to accommodate 10 hunters. With rocking chairs out front and a fire pit the old Florida environment is relaxing after a day of hunting upland birds.

For more information contact me or to book hunts call the lodge's main line at 352-528-9001. Leave a message with a number to call back because both Jared and his partner H Lawrence are in the field. H will return your call as soon as possible.
