Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear

Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bitter Sweet On Fly Rodding Tarpon

Just like every other year, the fly rodding for tarpon has been tough to be successful.

However we have had a small taste of success but if you look at the fleet as a whole the bite is way off.

Shining stars are Capt. Tommy Locke of Team St. Croix. he jumped 3 and caught one last week.

Capt. John Bazo and Jim Long clients landed two tarpon between 70-90 pounds.

Chance Cole hooked a monster of about 180-200 pounds that jumped once and then the fly fell out. This was last Saturday while the wind was cranking about 15 mph out of the west.

Cole has fished with me before years ago and he was totally stoked after that experience.

The bottom line is if you are not feeding the front end of the fish and the fly has to be in front of the fish a few feet to give the fly time to sink. If you have to do all this without spooking the fish with the fly line.

Every day is a new day and each day our odds increase for biters. There are some really huge tarpon all up and down the coast this year. So at least we are seeing some to throw at.

This Memorial Day weekend it will be time to break out the combat gear and see if we can snatch a jet skier. Ha Ha
