Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear
September 7, 2006
Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Mike Returns To New Boat

Howdy y’all! I have been out west and away from this dad-burn computer, thank God. Homosassa redfishing has been hot as of lately. Matthew Boren and wife had some great rod bending action with lots of nice bulls up to 31 inches last Saturday. We landed over 20 redfish. Yesterday’s party of 2 caught about 15 reds each all on live bait.

I bought a new boat, a 24’ Carolina skiff, so I can comfortably take up to four persons fishing such as families. I still prefer 1 to 3 anglers and I still own the Hells Bay Marquesas. The tarpon season ended in mid July although the north Florida tarpon fishery was still going strong through the middle of August this year.

August was hot and humid. Only a couple of trips were taken with big redfish a bonus. The dog days of summer really hit me hard this year after being out west. I did not feel like fishing too much. Fishing very early in the morning or even at night was the choice of some of the anglers here.

In late July, my family and I had a great time at the Tetons and Yellowstone. We went swimming, floating and saw a lot of wildlife. What a heavenly place, it is so beautiful and refreshing. All I can say is the vacation was too short!

September, October and November are about half booked. So if you are interested in fishing this Fall give me a call or send me an e-mail.

Have a Great Day!

Capt. Mike
