Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

A Thank You To All
I want to thank my clients who fished with me the past month or so and those who have been regulars over the years. Without repeat business, a fishing guide would not be successful. So, I do appreciate your business both past and future. Some stay out of Florida, so know that there are a few openings throughout the year and into tarpon season.
Writing Blues
Writing fishing reports has become old hat with me. You see I like new hats. When I get in a good mood and slow down, I will resume writing regular reports. My focus has been not too good when it comes to compiling a cookie cutter report.
Maybe my web site needs a face lift. I don’t like shaving either, but after the lather has been applied it goes easy. A 2-dayer is about all I can hack.
Here Goes A New Report!
In brief, September as always is the best month to sight fish massive numbers of redfish and this past month was the best in three years. Many anglers caught reds over 10 pounds that will measure more than 30 inches.
I don’t know if he was stretching the truth about 4 or 5 pounds, but my old buddy, Capt. Jim Long weighed a 20-pound redfish on the Boga-Grip. Folks that is a rarity in these waters but very likely. Anyway you have heard that all fishermen are liars except me and you. And I am not so sure about you. But heck if you are going to lie, lie big.
To Jimmy’s credit he is an excellent guide and he can find fish on his own, but he would rather come over and help you catch yours. Jimmy has been getting his clients limits of trout when no one else could.
And Capt. Charlie Harris with Steve Barry of State Farm bragged of 105 redfish. The part that puzzles me about that number is when he called me over to join him and I refused for quite a while to join them. When I arrived, they had on three at a time. Later that evening, I asked them how many they caught and the number was still 105. Charlie’s clients recently caught 20 keepers in two hours fishing.
MacRae's Bait House Lost it's Best Man &
Closing Reports
We lost to heaven one of the greatest men in my life that has ever lived. Duncan MacRae Sr. He was such an inspiration to my success and many others around Homosassa, he will be sorely missed. His youngest son Gator whom earned the ownership of MacRae’s Bait House and Motel summed it up well when he said, “I think he accomplished everything that he wanted to accomplish, and that makes his death a little easier to take.”
In closing reports, trout fishing has taken first place over red fishing and will until Spring. Of course there are still plenty of reds, but those who fish for them, will, in general earn them. Blues, macks and gags are coming in to feed on the schools of migrating bait headed south.
Go early and stay late to see the best sunrises and sunsets that God paints.
Have A Great Fall Season.
Capt. Mike
