Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

East Winds Continue & Bust All Records

May 30, 2007

I have never seen east winds last so long in May in 30 years of fishing. Tarpon fishing continues to be poor. The east winds are to blame for poor numbers of tarpon for fly fishermen on the gulf flats. Rumors have it that all the way south as far as Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound poons are almost invisible. This past week through today numbers of fly fishermen and tarpon can be counted on two hands. Things look up yesterday when “The Gambler” spotted 4 tarpon for Bazo and me. He almost ate Bazo’s client’s fly but the fly was pulled out of the water too quick.

Bottom line is the nights are not hot enough nor are the days. When we get the heat back the fish will show, perhaps it might take until the next new moon.

I’ll switch over to trout and redfish for the next three days and will keep an eye open for poons.
