Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear
October 8, 2007
Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

October Redfish Action Starts Hot in Homosassa

October has started out strong with plenty of redfish action hitting on gold spoons, DOA jigs and live pinfish or shrimp. New moon tides have made the past few days excellent for getting in close to where the redfish hang.

Captains Mark Zorn, Rick Spratt John Bazo and me guided the John Euart party from Atlanta, Georgia. With two days of fishing the group of 12 anglers had plenty of rod bending and drags screaming.

On day 1, it was hard to estimate how many redfish that were boated and released between the 4 boats as we lost count. The redfish action was pretty much non-stop both mornings. Bruisers up to 31-inches were fought.

On Day 2, David Edwards had one of his best days ever with Capt. “Z” catching his limit of trout and redfish. Of course everyone had their limit of slot redfish. John Euart also had a new redfish high count while fishing with me.

But it was Kitty on day 1 whom won honors for the biggest trout while fishing with Capt. Rick Spratt with a fat 21-inch trout. She also landed the biggest keeper redfish, a 26-incher while fishing with "Z" earlier in the day.

Day 2, with the pressure on, Kitty boarded my boat feeling a little ill from a stomach virus going around. This did not stop her though from catching the largest redfish of 27-inches and the one with the most spots (14) while fishing with yours truly.

All the winnings ($) were awarded to the perspective guides as an incentative to catch more and try harder.

Please check my home site photo gallery for a few recent pixs of the Euarts’ and their friends reds.
