Fishing Report for Homosassa, Florida

Capt. Mike Locklear
April 26, 2000
Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Reds are always fun action on Homosassa flats

Sam Shine and his friends fish with me 6 or 8 times a year. He always try to pick the best tides so we do not have an excuse as to why the fish do not bite.

Just recently Sam and his neighbors came through once again. In just a couple of hours fishing 15 big reds were caught and released. Well, we did keep one becasue he was gut hooked and rolled over on us.

Sam is a big donor to the Coastal Conservation Association. The CCA does more good for recreational fisheries than any other lobby in the country. On May 20 a fundraiser with many items to be auctioned will take place at Rock Crusher Canyon. Pro-Line Boats will offer a 240 and many exotic trips will be sold. I have tickets for $60 each if anyone is interested. Dinner and a membership is included. This is the CCA event of the year and it is on a Saturday, so you can come up and spend the weekend and catch some fish. There are places to camp on the same grounds in which the event is to be held and a small boat show beginning at 4:30 PM. Open bar at 6:00 P.M. with Silent Auction. Live Auction and Dinner at 7:00 P.M. MacRae's has some rooms available, but you better hurry if you want to spend the night on the river.

I am hoping the wind will lay and the tarpon show up soon.

Go fishing because it is good fer' ya!
