This Week's Fishing Report
I would like to begin this week's report by taking a moment to thank all of our young heroes serving in Iraq and Afghanistan for their faithful and dedicated service to our county, as I was honored to participate in the Wounded Warriors Outdoors fishing event this past week. For three days two young Marines, Josh and Jacob, graced the deck of Three Quarter Time for some hardcore fishing adventure. The weather was extremely tough with high winds and rain, but these guys were tougher, and I was obliged to fish them as long as they wanted. Both men are recovering from life altering injuries sustain from IEDs while serving in Afghanistan, and both men love fishing, so together we drowned 48 dozen shrimp and numerous crabs on our three day expedition. Thank you Josh and Jacob for your service and an exciting and enlightening three days of fishing.
Although we've been experiencing our typical March weather here on the Space Coast (windy and rainy days) the fishing overall has been good inshore in the Lagoon. The windy conditions have shut down any chances of chasing cobia near-shore, but locating patchy bottom in 12 to 18 inches of water on a leeward shoreline has been the secret to catching over slot sea trout and redfish in the Lagoon.
Jim Carlson caught 16 sea trout and this redfish on the same plug, a Hall-Em Lures Peanut while fishing in 16 inches of water.
In closing I was remined this week that fishing and life should not be taken for granted, so get out there and catch some fish.
As always, if you have any questions or need information, please contact me.
Good luck and good fishing,
Captain Tom Van Horn
