Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Well, Christmas is only a few days away. What did you ask Santa for, a new reel, rod, or tackle box? Hey, lets think big. After all we have all been good boys and girls this year haven’t we? How about a new boat? If you are like me a lot of your wishes probably have something to do with fishes. Anyway, the warmer weather of the past week or so has resulted in some good catches of trout on the flats; however, the recent change to colder temps may change some things. The wind has been pesky but workable for the most part. We will have to wait and see how cold it gets and how long it lasts. Reds have been hard to come by lately and the cold temps may make it very difficult to put many reds in the boat. Ladyfish, jacks, and dare I mention the “t” word, yes tarpon, have been consistently available, although not always cooperative in the case of the tarpon. Again, the weather has changed, and a new feeling out process will begin once the winds die down and things stabilize a bit. I have been working the Sebastian area for the most part, and the fish have been coming on an assortment of baits from top-water to D.O.A. shrimp fished deep. I know this sounds like the same old stuff, but hey, when something is working why change it. Not to say there may not be a better way to do things. There usually is, and I am more than willing to learn. So, if you have some tips or suggestions, or just want to talk fishing, send me an e-mail. I will be on vacation from the 22nd of December to the 29th, so I will not have local fishing to report on. However, I will report on my ice-fishing trips in Wisconsin if the ice is good. It should be given the current temps in that part of the world, about 20 below! Boy we have it good down here. Until next week, may Santa bring you all that you asked for.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Capt. Ron
