Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Windy, windier, windiest
Windy, windier, windiest! Unfortunately, this is going to be a short report. I just have not been fishing much over the last week or so because of the weather. The unrelenting wind and periodic rain has made fishing very difficult. Some areas can be fished, but options are reduced to the point that it is tuff to get a ½ day in, let alone a full day. This wind pattern has to change soon. When we do get back into a summer pattern of a west wind in the morning and an east sea breeze during the afternoon the catching should improve. There is no doubt that the fish are out there and they are feeding, but getting to them and stay on them has been next to impossible. In addition to the reds, trout, and snook in the Indian River, tarpon and kingfish should be foraging near the beaches out to about 25 to 50 ft. of water. I can’t wait for these winds to allow me to do all that is possible this time of year.
If you do manage to get out try top-water for the trout, and spoons for the reds on the shallow flats near deep water. A few permit have been holding alone the deep edges of the intercoastal and they are a blast. Jigs and top-water have produced a few nice fish. For the kingfish and tarpon catch some blue runners or greenies and look for bird activity. The predators will not be far off. Watch out for sharks though.

Until next week,
Tight-Lines to all
Sincerely, Capt. Ron
