Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Indian River Report - Sebastian Area
Sorry for the long absence. I have been battling an illness over the last couple of months and it is yet to be diagnosed. I have been fishing but have had little strength to do much else. In between all the rain the fishing has been spotty. One day we do very well the next rather poorly.
Over the past few days the trout have been active more often than not taking top-water early and SOF spoons and jerk baits later. Snook in the river have been spotty. The high water has made it tough. Some fish can be had around areas of run off from mosquito impoundments and small creeks, but for the most part water has not been running from the impounds because the lagoon water level is very high. SOF spoons and Cotee glitter shads on light jigs have been producing the snook. Redfish in the lagoon around the Sebastian area have been very difficult given the high and murky water. Jacks and ladyfish have been the most dependable over the last few weeks. Fish the edges of flats and anywhere there is good current around structure.
The bait run is on and if the rain stops and lets things settle down a bit in the lagoon the fishing should get better and better.
A few early flounder are starting their fall run through the Inlet. Be on the look out for this fishery to pick up over the next few weeks. Drift the inlet on incoming tides every few days to detect when the run gets cranked up and then get ready for some good eatin!
If you can get outside the Inlet, areas just off the beach north and south should produce great action for large jacks, snook, redfish, who knows what else. Try live finger mullet or artificial imitations of such.
A will try to write more, just pray that I feel better soon.
Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
