Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
Trout, jacks, and ladyfish remained active in the Indian River again this week. Water temps were in the upper 70s late in the day and the fish were active in a foot of water. In some cases keeper sized trout were stacked around bars, humps (i.e., sunken islands), islands, points, and the shallow edges of flats. A case in point was yesterday when my party caught over 30 trout around one hump. If the wind is blowing, find an area that is receiving some wave action and bounce jigs over this area. The trout should pound it.
Jacks and ladyfish have been using the same areas and we have been catching them using the same technique. A few larger trout have been coming on top-water very early and very late in the day. Shrimp will work, but you will need a lot of them, because pinfish will eat most of them before the trout can react. Redfish, except in the Inlet for the really large fish, were tough to find again this week.
Not much else to report. The pattern should last until the weather changes. A cool down is forecast for the next few days. This may drive some of the trout a bit deeper, but most should stay shallow if the water temps do not get too cold, say below 65 degrees.
