Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Fishing Report - Sebastian Area
Capt. Ron Bielefeld’s Inshore fishing report – July 10, 2002 – Sebastian Area, Florida - Over the past few weeks, the fishing has been very unpredictable. The large amounts of rain the Sebastian area has received over the period have created very dirty water conditions and a lot of floating grass making the use of anything but jerk baits a real challenge. New penny and lime green jerk baits have been the most productive on the flats. Spooks and poppers also have produced, but working them can be frustrating due to the aforementioned grasss. Trout, reds, and jacks have been active on some flats early and late, especially if you can find a bit of clear water. Areas well north and south of the Sebastian area do have a bit cleaner water, but the catch still has been spotty.
Calmer ocean conditions have allowed some trips out along the beaches north and south of the Inlet. Spanish Mackerel have been plentiful, as have Bonita. Some tarpon have been spotted south, but we have not been able to hook up as of yet. There has been a lot of traffic due to the calm conditions and the July 4th holiday. As things settle down again, the fish should become more cooperative and the beach should yield several nice tarpon if things turn out like last summer.
