Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielfeld's Indian River Fishing Report - Sebastian Area
During the past week or so, the trout, snapper, jacks, and snook has been very active on the edge of flats early in the morning. Try areas around 4 ft. with grass nearby. A few nice blue fish and reds also have been hanging around these areas. Trout from 15 inches to 5 lbs. have been hitting top-water plugs early. If baitfishes are present in large numbers a faster retrieve has been working the best. If conditions are calm and the baitfish are not too active, a slow rhythmic retrieve has been producing. Once the sun is up, trout, reds, snapper, jacks, and snook have attached ¼ oz. jigs and small shallow –running plugs. Look for shaded areas such as mangroves and docks later in the morning. Some larger trout and snook have been lying up in these areas. A slowly retrieved jerk bait or SOF snoop has enticed a few of these fish to strike. Late evenings have not been as productive lately. With the full moon and the very warm weather fish have been feeding after dark, but so have the bugs. So if you are going out after dark remember your repellent, or the trip may be memorable for the wrong reasons. With the water still a bit on the murky side, brighter colors have been producing a bit better than more natural schemes.
Until next time,
Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
