Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Report - Sebastian Area
Cool front #2 has hit the Florida east coast and temps and humidity have dropped considerably. Water temps are down as well into the mid-70s. This past week I made only 2 trips, but we caught some nice fish. The numbers were down a bit on trout, but we caught a few fish over 5 lbs, which is always nice. The trout hit top-water plugs, DOA shrimp, and ¼ oz jigs with gold shad-tails. The fish were in shallow water over grass and around islands. The best action came during the mid-morning in water about 2 ft. deep.
We caught a few redfish and they all hit top-water plugs over shallow bars early in the morning. Jacks and ladyfish rounded out our catch. The jacks continue to be plentiful on and around the edges of flats. The jack hit everything we threw at them, as usual. Of course they are most fun when the crash top-water plugs. We did not target snook this week so we did not boat any.
I made a few journeys to the inlet to see if the flounder are showing up yet. We did catch a few, but they were all small. Better times to come as the water temps cool off into the 60s.
Just a reminder, trout season is now closed as of November 1.
Tip-of-the-week: fish shallow when the water temps are between 70 and 80 degrees.
Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
