Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
The water has warmed up into the low to mid 70s and the trout and reds appear to be feeding more heavily and more often. When the winds have not been so strong as to hinder fishing, the trout and reds have been active over shallow grass 1-2 feet deep. These fish are taking top-water plugs and jerk baits. If the water is clear in the area you are fishing, make long casts and be as quiet as you can on approach because the larger fish have been easily spooked under these conditions. If the water is turbid, I have been able to get right up on some of the bigger fish. Vary the speed of your retrieve and technique you are using to maximize your catch. I have found that some like it fast and some like it slow. If you catch a few fish using top-water, switch to a jerk bait and throw a few more casts before you leave an area. I bet you will pick up a few more fish! Colors have not mattered much, but I like the Silver Mullet Super Spook and the Goldin Glow colored jerk baits. The best time to fish often is the falling tide the first 2 hours after the high. The reds and the trout have been using the same areas, and some of the fish are large. Most are in the nice-to-fight size range. If the weather will ever settled down and be the same for more than just a few days in a row, the fishing should get even better.
Until Next Time, Tight-Lines To All
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
