Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
What happened to spring! It appears we have gone right from winter to summer with temperatures in the upper 80s and the humidity making it feel like the mid 90s. The water temps are now in the low 80s and a summer pattern has emerged with the action being best very early and late in the day.
My last few trip have been productive for trout, ladyfish, jacks, and a few reds, but we have had to work for our fish. Late evenings have been best the last few trips most likely because of the full moon, which allows fish to feed at night. Top-water plugs have been effective during dim-light periods, but jigs and plugs that run a foot or two deep have been the producers later in the day.
Target flats with bait (look for feeding birds) and low boat traffic. Drift, pole, or wade these areas to keep from spooking fish. The larger trout and reds have all been coming on long casts far from the boat. As the day progresses fish deeper structure like edges of flats, and islands.
Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely, Capt. Ron
